Thanks(for)Giving
Wait
for just a moment,
while I’m prompted to acknowledge life.
Prompted to give thanks for sight,
for sound.
Reminded to give thanks
that I still walk God’s ground
freely.
Excuse me,
TV
has encouraged me
to love on this random day.
Love those whom I may have hated yesterday
and the day before.
Wait a minute,
while I answer the door.
Family arrives from all corners of the Earth during these hours.
Laden with food
and in season flowers.
And baggage.
Much familial baggage.
Oh, and luggage too…
Crunching on proverbial egg shells from Auntie’s famous pies.
Excuse me while I
be grateful and reflect on just today.
Speak kind words and remember to pray.
It’s Thanksgiving.
But tomorrow we’re free to resume our consumed lives.
Right?
